Syrix, Carrier of the Flame 4
Very powerful but a little narrow. You can play this without phoenix support but you do need a means to have other dorks leave your bin. If you flop this out on the same turn as you get back a Bloodghast for example then you have yourself a little Glorybringer which is a great place to be. Syrix in a deck with both other phoenix and the means to get dorks out of the bin consistently as well is going to be an impressive threat, hard to answer, high tempo, disruptive, value, all the good things. A little narrow to be a big name though.
Waste Management 1
Not useless but also not powerful enough. Seven mana is too much for most things and at 3 the card is simply underwhelming on top of conditional.
Xander's Pact 0
A long way off interesting in 1v1 play. Random results and very likely poor tempo. Oops, I hit a land...
Dogged Detective 7
The trigger to recur this should be satisfied relatively easily in cube but it is rather too much at your opponent's discretion for my liking. It also just gets this back which is a low powered dork. You still have to play it so there is no great tempo to be had. Self mill and card quality are nice for sure but you probably need some synergy with the mill for this to really appeal. Mire Triton is the card most comparable to this. It was relevant thanks to deathtouch but that was not enough to keep it a slot in my cube ultimately. The lack of something like deathtouch on Detective rather takes away from the recursion aspect. It still looks like it might be playable but it is a long way off a bomb, more of a filler support card for decks with a sac or yard synergy element to them.
Extravagant Replication 1
Masses of fun to be had here but all a bit pricy and slow for 1v1 play. Mostly I want to copy the Replication itself which isn't allowed.
Flawless Forgery 0
Very expensive for what it does in addition to being entirely reliant on your opponent having a thing you want to play. At least Direfleet Daredevil is an Elvish Archer when you have nothing to hit with it.
Park Heights Maverick 2
All a bit Grey Ogre which is hard for me to say as I absolutely adore proliferate. This has many abilities but they are low value and situational. Even in a proliferate themed deck I suspect trying to get much out of this will be tough.
Skyborn Evangelist 2
I'll keep my Venerated Loxodon over this. While this isn't at all bad it is a little too conditional for an aggressive five drop. You need other dorks to support and you ideally want to be able to attack for a load right away with them making this more of an Overrun than an actual dork. I would rather a more playable team buff or a better stand alone threat.
Damning Verdict 3
Powerful but needs to be built around. Just thrown into a deck randomly it is both a weaker effect than a Wrath at a higher price than a Wrath. You need to put this in a deck with entirely countered up dorks and then it is great.
Brokers Confluence 2
This is a whole lot of mana for not all that much return. It is super hard to get value or tempo with this card. All the abilities are situational. The stifle is rarely going to have more than one target. Amazingly this is another proliferate card I am less than excited about. I'll take Planewide Celebration over this I reckon which is a little awkward...
Contractual Safeguard 1
All a bit clumsy and conditional. Falling into the trap of not doing threat or removal things. I prefer Unbreakable Formation to this generally and I much prefer the likes of Selfless Spirit to that.
Storm of Forms 2
A cool new mechanic thing to build around but pretty hard to do and not the most broken payoff either. Not unplayable by any means but not worth building around and so it is going to have a long wait for a deck incidentally suitable for this.
Family's Favour 2
Buff or draw is nice but they are more value than anything else which is at odds with a card that needs you to be attacking. Yes, you can gain some tempo with the shield counters but you could instead be playing a card like Curse of Predation and be gaining a lot of tempo and threat instead. Curse is simply far better suited to the places you can use it than Family's Favour. Garruk's Uprising would be the direction I would look to go in for a more midrange value tool as it does not demand you are attacking to do anything.
Resourceful Defense 2
Ozolith in white for three mana. Certainly playable in the right place but there are rather fewer of those for this than for Ozolith and it is already a pretty narrow card.
Angelic Sleuth 2
This is one of those cards which has synergy potential but you need to get very near the ceiling on that just for the card to limp over the bar for cube playability. Yes, in the perfect deck this will be an OK card, obtaining the dizzy heights of Bygone Bishop and Welcoming Vampire!
