Legendary Reanimator

Shallow GraveI recently added Shallow Grave, Goryo's Vengeance and Corpse Dance to my cube to support the other black reanimate effects and to a certain extent also support Sneak Attack strategies. To support these new cards I added some extra Eldrazi to the cube and also Borborygmos Enraged who is actually the third best legend for the job despite being pretty naff compared with other cards of his cost. The best uses of these new cards have actually been in weird and wonderful decks, four colour things, things with loads of combos. They have all been in limited cube formats while this list is a more refined and linear constructed cube version. It is supposed to show how you can build around the shell of one shot reanimate effects. So far I have found them to be better than things like Reanimate and Exhume simply because you get to attack right away. If your creature is gamebreaking enough to be worth reanimating one hit is all you need and so this combo is a little punchier and harder to disrupt than the ones that permanently put a fatty into play.

Borborygmos EnragedThis deck can pull off a turn one win with not too much bother compared to most unpowered cube decks that can pull of such feats. Dark Ritual, Entomb/Putrid Imp a Blightsteel/Borborgymos into a Shallow Grave or Goryo's Vengeance if the latter of the threats. I have intentionally made this list very linear to showcase how to do it ideally but with the fewest frills. You can add a load of different colours for a variety of utility and redundancy and that is great. The fact that you can do this powerful deck as a mono deck now is fantastic. Black finally has enough playable or suitable discard outlets to not need another colour holding its hand.

There are some other cards you can consider for this list, both support and additional threats.

Buried Alive
Bloodghast
Read the Bones
Necropotence
Sinister Concoction
Rotting Rats

Worldspine Wurm
Grave Titan
Kozilek, the Butcher of Truth
Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre

While this deck is very powerful and impressively consistent it is not something you can easily look to draft, it is much more of a constructed deck. With draft being that much more random you typically end up with a deck that includes aspects of this specific strategy melded with other similar combo cards from other colours. I shall show one of these decks in the next post.
